MONUMENT NO. 80244

DESCRIPTION + /

A hoard of 15,000 to 20,000 bronze coins, dating apparently from Gallienus to Aurelian (AD 253-275), in a globular two-handled urn covered by a dish, was found at Riby Wold Farm, Riby, in 1953. Ditches were revealed by ploughing at the same site in 1957, and two trial trenches yielded a fair amount of 2nd century Romano-British pottery. There can be little doubt that these ditches delineate Roman fields, being similar to those found at the villa at Langton and elsewhere.
