HATTERBOARD

DESCRIPTION + /

Deserted Medieval village with a Franciscan friary which moved here from Scarborough in 1245, but returned to Scarborough in 1272 (see TA08NW93). Henry III ordered the bailiffs to remove building materials from the Scarborough site to Hatterboard. Excavations have found much of the settlement, but failed to identify the location of the friary.
