More information : Roman Occupation Site which is being excavated by Mr.T. Brewster of Flixton. Finds include two hut floors, a coin of Vespasian, three fibulae, an iron Spear-head, and pottery. [area centred: TA 02467938] (1) Finds in Hull Mus., Scarb. Mus., or with T. Brewster. (2) Staxton Romano-British site, 1st and 2nd centuries to 5th & Anglian Excavated 1947-1948. Circular outer ditch, cut c.80 A.D. enclosed rectangular ditch, guarding huts. Report to be published by July 1955. (3)

Excavation of a settlement consisting of hut circles enclosed by two ditches; the site was apparently occupied in the late 1st-early 2nd centuries AD. There was probably Anglo-Saxon occupation within the outer ditch on the eastern side of the site in the 6th century AD, though this area was destroyed in WWII. (5) |
