Summary : Possible earthwork remains of a Roman road extending from Malton to Filey.
More information : (1) Possible Course of Roman Road, Flotmanby Lane, from
point A. [06657946] to point B. [07847979] A ridge can be traced
along this line, which has the typical appearance of a Roman
roadway (1) it can be faintly traced across this field-stone.
(2) It passes under the modern road and appears as a cambered
ridge 17'6" wide, with small side ditches. A field path follows
part of it. Stone beneath 4" and deeper (3) Between W & E
Flotmanby a ridge with stones runs parallel to and about 10
yards from the modern road.
This has not been proved a road, but it may be a section of
the Malton-Filey Road, which certainly existed, but has not been
found. (1)
