Summary : Anglian twin-cross socket stone of 10th-1th century date found in 1958 (not in situ). 10th century. It was found in the course of field drainage in Church Field, behind the church, and close to a spring.
More information : [SJ 97408447] (2) Recently, during the digging of a
drain behind Disley Church, a stone slab with two circular holes
was found. probably the base of a pair of round shafted crosses.
Thompson queries whether it it has any connection with the crosses
in Lyme Park [SJ 98 SE 8] or with the Bowstones. [SJ 98 SE 10] (1)

The Cross base, which is as described, is lying against a wall
at SJ 9744 8449. See G.P. AO/62/278/5.
By virtue of the size of the perforations, it is not connected
with other Saxon crosses in the locality - SJ 98 SE 8 or SJ 98 SE 10
The find spot was pointed out at SJ 9738 8444 by the vicar. He
was present when it was found in 1958. (4)
