Summary : Bronze Age round cairn surviving as an earthwork. Excavation uncovered secondary Bronze Age cremations, but not the primary burial.
More information : What is probably a turf-covered cairn, was found during field investigation at SJ 92487132. It has been mutilated by ploughing and the top has been disturbed exposing stones. Maximum diameter 24.0m., height up to 1.4m. Surveyed at 1/2500. (1) Partly excavated in 1962 by J. Forde-Johnston of Manchester University. A small number of B.A. secondary cremations were found but not the primary burial. (2) (SJ92487132) Cairn (NR) (3) SJ 925713 - Cairn, 200m SW of Sutton Hall - Scheduled No 116. (4) SJ 9248 7131. Round cairn 200m SW of Sutton Hall. Scheduled RSM No 22574. (5)
