Summary : Medieval west gate of Stafford; demolished before 1611?
More information : John Speed shows and describes `West Gate' at Broadeye Bridge (approximately SJ 9182 2328) on his plan of 1610 (see illustration with SJ 92 SW 4), and Celia Fiennes stated in 1698 that there had formerly been a gate there. (1)

A plan of Stafford made between 1593 and 1611 shows an opening in the defences at Broadeye Bridge but no structure (see illustration with SJ 92 SW 4). (2)
