DESCRIPTION

The remains of a probable boundary cross, of 10th-11th century date consisting of a roughly rectangular base 4feet 9ins long by 1 foot 9 inches wide with two sockets. It originally stood on the south side of the Roman road from Manchester to Chester, but in 1925 it was removed and placed at the entrance to Gorse Park, 100 yards away.
