Summary : Possible remains of 1917 wreck of British hospital ship which foundered off the Isle of Wight. If the DONEGAL, she was torpedoed en route from Le Havre to Southampton, while engaged in repatriating soldiers, and she was a steam driven vessel.
More information : Method of Fix: HF General Depth: 48 metres 29-JUN-1976: Located on regular seabed with minor dunes. Orientated NE/SW length 82.5m, height 7m by shadow. (1) A telegraph stand recovered from the DONEGAL, 15 to 20 miles SE of the Isle of Wight. (Droit 049/05) (2) A letter "A", brass on bronze, and a bell and hanger, inscribed "DONEGAL", no date, recovered 20 miles south of the Isle of Wight at 51m depth. (Droit 052/05) (2) A helm recovered from the DONEGAL, approximately 20 miles SE of the Isle of Wight. (Droit 054/05) (2) Described as 25 miles out from Littlehampton on the "Back of the Wight" in 50 metres. (3) Date of Loss Qualifier: Actual date of loss
