Summary : Coke works, built in mid 1930s by John Bowes and Partners Limited. The works were nationalised in 1947 and came under control of the National Coal Board. A major programme of extension and reconstruction took place in 1953-1956. Decommissioned in 1990 and demolished 1992-3.
