Church of St John

Summary : Formerly St Helena's Chapel, a C14th parochial chapel. This was at Knutsford between Cross Town and Booth Mere. It was demolished in 1741 to make way for the church built in 1744. It has an associated cemetery, but no foundations are visible.

St John's Church - site of an ancient church situated about 32 chains
S.S.E. of Heath Lodge. (3)

Nether Knutsford, formerly within Rostherne parish, became part
of Knutsford parish created, in 1741.

The parochial chapel of Nether Knutsford near Cross Town
was originally allied to the mother church at Rostherne (SJ
78 SW 2), but was demolished in 1741.

The new parish church of St. John the Baptist, Knutsford (at
SJ 7527851) was built in 1744. (4-5)

An ancient parochial chapel thought to have been dedicated to
St. Helena was situated in the fields beyond Cross-town and near
Booth Mere. It dated from the early 14th century and was demolished
in 1741. All that remains are the base foundations in the long
disused churchyard. (6)

2),a parochial chapel of Rostherne parish". (7)

The foundations of the church, up to 0.3m. high, remain. (8)

SS 767788, Site of St. John's Church. Scheduled. A level,
grassed area marking the site of St. John's Church and cemetery.
Tomb slabs, - mainly of 18th century date, have been arranged to
form a rough outline of the church but there is no sign of the former
structure (9)
