Summary : Site of moat in Castle Ditches field.

This is not a castle mound but the slightly raised inner platform of a rectilinear homestead moat. The surrounding ground has been mutilated by marl or gravel digging on all but the south-west side. Surveyed at 1/2500. (2)

The name 'Castle Ditches' and the conformation of the ground point to there having been some sort of fortified place in the field of that name, close to the road leading from The Marsh to Doley. (3)

The field containing the moat is called 'Castle Ditches'

No change from survey of 27.7.62. Published survey (1:2500) correct. (4)
