| Summary : A sandstone cross base set in the grass verge at the junction of two minor roads in the centre of the village of Salterswell. It is in its original position and is one of four wayside crosses guiding the medieval traveller to the precinct of Vale Royal Abbey to the NE (see also SJ 56 NE 13, 14 and 30). |

The site of the cross is occupied by a modern road.
At SJ 6276700 there is a square sandstone block with sides of
0.6 m. and with a square dished hollow in the top. The hollow has
sides of 0.4 m. and is up to 3 inches deep.
The stone is set in the ground and only 4" of it protrudes
above ground level. It could be the socket stone.
