More information : [SJ 5394 7680] CAMP [OE] (1) Bradley Hill Fort - Promontory camp defined by single ditch cutting off neck of land between two small tributaries of the R. Weaver. Without visible entrance. Altitude 120' O.D. Area: 9482 sq. yds. (2) Iron Age Hillfort (3) The earthwork has natural defences only on the north and has fairly level ground surrounding it on other sides. It is therefore questionable if it can be properly classified as a promontory fort. It is poorly sited for an Iron Age promontory fort. Though the camp is probably of Iron Age date, there is not sufficient evidence for positive identification. Mr. Forde-Johnston's MS survey was consulted during re-survey. (4) Published survey (25" 1962) correct. (5) Further reference. (6) A small, relatively weak, Iron Age defended settlement. The southern side is under the plough but is still clearly visible. Published survey (1:2500) correct. (7) Listed by Challis and Harding as a hillfort of promontory type, 1.5 acres in area (Iron Age). (8)
SJ 539 768. Bradley Camp. Listed in gazetteer as a univallate hillfort covering 0.6ha. (9)
