More information : A sundial at Tarporley, on the base of an old cross, is listed by Crossley. It bears the inscription: Henry Winn Churchwardens William .... 16 .. (1) The cross is situated at SJ 55356251 - See survey. See GP AO/61/ 289/7 Cross from the SE. (2) SJ 55356251. The remains consist of a socket stone of red sandstone measuring 0.9m by 0.8m and 0.45m high, with a fragment of shaft of yellow sandstone, 0.9m high, 0.35m square in section. The base has moulded corners, that on the SE being different from the others and possibly formerly supported a statuette. The shaft is surmounted by a sundial. It is possible that as the socket stone and shaft are of different materials, they belong to separate crosses. Published 1:2500 survey, 1970, correct. (3)
