More information : [SJ 5892 6768] Long Stone [T.I.] (1) Long Stone, Shay's Lane, Little Budwroth. Mediaeval. Lower end of stone resting on base, set above modern block. Grade 1. (2) 'Lone Stone' (3) The Long Stone, which is of red sandstone is 1 ft. square at the base and 1 ft 9 ins tall. There is nothing to indicate its age or purpose, but it would fit into the Cross socket stone of nearby SJ 56 NE 13. See GP AO/61/289/1 Long Stone. (4) Medieval shaft set in a modern socket stone upon modern step. No change since report 11.10.61. Published 1:2500 survey correct. (5) No change since report of 12.03.76. Authority 5. (6)

SJ 5892 6768. The Longstone, a part of a cross shaft on Longstone Lane at junction with Shay's Lane. Scheduled RSM No 25696. A medieval cross shaft fragment set on a modern sandstone base on a concrete plinth. The name Longstone Lane indicates that the cross is in its original position on the medieval road and later coach road leading to Vale Royal Abbey and with [SJ 56 NE 13 and 30] forms a group skirting the Abbots Moss and taking the medieval traveller to the abbey.
