Woodhey Cross

Summary : Late Medieval, probably early 16th century wayside cross made of red sandstone. It survives as a sqare section of shaft set into a deep square base on two steps built from a number of pieces of stone. The initials AH have been carved into both the base block and the shaft. Scheduled and listed.

The remains comprise a fragment of shaft, a socket stone and
two steps. It has been rebuilt andis probably not in situ.

See G.P. AO/64/228/3. (2)

The shaft is 0.6 m long and 0.25 m square in cross section. It
has moulded corners which are stepped near the foot. The socket
stone is 0.8 m square, 0.5 m high. The two steps are probably
post-Medieval.
