Summary : A Roman altar was found in association with building debris while digging a sandpit, know as the Cherry Grove. In 1870 two flagons and two cremation burials were found. The altar is located in a building at Eaton Hall.

Altar inscribed "NYMPHS ET FONTIBUS LEG. XX. V.V." found in
1821, in association with building debris, while digging at
the eastern side of a sandpit, which is now known as the Cherry
Grove and thought to mark the source of the legionary water supply.
In 1870, two flagons and two cremation burials in Upchurch jars,
were found. (3)

A modern road occupies the site.

The altar is preserved in a building at Eaton Hall. (4)
