Summary : Leper hospital and hospital for the poor founded between 1200 and 1210 and not suppressed. It was assigned to the Hospitallers of Halston after 1221 and at a later date it was partly dependent on Haughmond Abbey.
More information : A hospital dedicated to St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist at Oswestry was founded by Reiner, Bishop of St Asaph between 1200 and 1210 for lepers and the poor. The chapel, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was situated in Church Street and was last recorded in 1577. (1,2)
