An earthwork redoubt was built in 1564 as part of the peninsular fortification outside the eastern ramparts. (2) A substantial earthwork in good condition, though partially mutilated by coastal erosion. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (3)
The redoubt, centred at NU 0039 5348, has been eroded by the sea; it survives as a platform, 3.5m above surrounding ground level, containing a depression, 1.8m maximum depth. It was damaged by a golf tee. Surveyed by RCHME at 1:1250. (4)
A post Medieval bastion outwork, in the form of a redoubt, is centred at NU 0039 5348, and is visible as an earthwork on air photographs. Only the southern corner is visible on the air photographs available. It is as described by authority 4. (5) |
