Rob Howe Long Barrow 690m North East Of Scamridge Farm

Summary : The site of a Neolithic long barrow situated towards the top of the east facing slope into Scamridge Slack on the southern dip slopes of the Tabular Hills. No longer visible on the ground but seen as a cropmark from the air. Located 130 metres to the north of a second long barrow. The barrow is orientated east north east to west south west. It is about 43 metres long and 18 metres wide at the west end and 26 metres wide at the east end. Pits have been recorded at the eastern end of this barrow. Scheduled.

Rob Howe, a long barrow (3) now completely ploughed down but visible on air photographs (4) measured about 40 yards long by 20 yards wide at the east end and 9-10 yards at the west end according to Young who observed "a circular depression on the top near each end". This barrow or the one further south (see SE 98 NW 50) "was much mutilated, a greater part of the stones having been carried off, by which means many bones have been thrown out". (3-5)

Rob Howe (Tumulus) (Site of). "A large and long tumulus at the east end of which are some pits apparently of a very antique character...".(6)

The site of one of two Neolithic long barrows situated towards the top of the east facing slope into Scamridge Slack on the southern dip slopes of the Tabular Hills. This site, known as Rob Howe, is located 130 metres to the north of the second barrow and is about 43 metres long and 18 metres wide at the western end and 26 metres wide at the eastern end.
