Summary : Excavation uncovered a Romano-British occupation layer and 4th century AD pottery; coins of Severus Alexander, AD 222-235 and Diocletian, AD 284-305.
More information : A Ro coin of Severus Alexander and another of
Diocletian, were found in the field E of Sherburn Church, (a)
(area SE 962774). An occupation level was found at a depth of
2ft in a trench dug in 1928, and 4th century potsherds were
found in eleven places by Dr Kirk. (1)

Coins of Severus Alexander and Diocletian (SE 96057753) and 4th
century pottery (SE 96207774) found NE of Sherburn church. Other
signs of occupation S of the Church. (2)
