The kiln had been dug in natural clay, the fire chamber being oval in shape, about 4 ft long and 2 ft 7 ins wide with a central dividing wall (see illus). A large amount of pottery was found, comprising wide-mouthed bowls, jars, flagons including Huntcliff ware, and dishes; the latter represented more than one third of the total. A fragment of late 2nd century Samian ware was also found. The kiln, in good condition, cannot have had a long period of use. Probably dated to somewhere between 150 and 250 AD. (2)
