Summary : Site of a Roman villa indicated by building debris, tesselated pavement, coins and pottery. The site is scheduled.
More information : SE 93910041. A bronze penannular brooch with flat decorated terminals and slightly bowed bronze pin - Fowler's type Aa - was found at Kirton in Lindsey in 1969 of Iron Age date. In Scunthorpe Museum. (1)

SE 939004. Mount Pleasant Roman Villa. Scheduled. (2)

Centred SE 939004. Romano British villa site on Mount Pleasant Farm. Building debris, dressed limestone blocks, rubble, roof and flue tile is to be found in the ploughsoil over a wide area 2 ha or more - North and South of the tree-lined avenue. The fields were first deep-ploughed in 1964. A tesselated pavement has been exposed in a corner of the orchard at SE 93870035. Surface finds from the general area include greywares, shell-gritted, colour-coated and samian sherds, and 4th century coins. These are in private possession and Scunthorpe Museum, acc code: KL AC. A barbed and tanged arrowhead, and penny of Henry VIII, York Mint, have also been found on the farm. (3)

There are some cropmarks in this area which could possibly be associated with the villa - (see SE 90 SW 76). (4)

HU 11 Listed as the site of a Roman villa. (5)
