More information : Roman Occupation On this site Dr.Kirk and Mr.Corder found fragments of 4th. century pottery. In Feb. 1928 a little over a foot deep, was found a rammed chalk floor covered with a black layer of burnt material, and crossed by two wall footings. Above and on this floor were many 4th. cent. sherds and a coin of Constantinius II, a similar floor was found 50 yds. from this, and other trial pits shewed the occupation level, and produced similar sherds.
