Excavations in the monastic precinct in 1972 revealed a much robbed monastic building (building 8). The walls were of mortared stone and tiles and the building lay at forty five degrees to the rest of the Abbey buildings. Finds suggested that the building was fairly early, 12th century and 13/14th century pottery were found. There was some evidence to suggest that the building survived the Dissolution of the Abbey c1540.
The building is in an appropriate position to be the monastic infirmary. (1)
