Summary : A canal footbridge which links the Middle Gardens to land north of the Grand Union Canal in the northern area of London Zoo. A footbridge was first constructed here in 1842 and was one of five bridges built in Regent's Park by James Dredge on the patent taper chain principle. This bridge was replaced in 1874 or 1879-80 with the current structure. This was designed by the engineer John Fowler and was probably manufactured by the Regent's Canal Iron Works. The deck has been replaced twice, in 1906 and 1930. The bridge is of cast iron with cast iron railings and masonry abutments and parapets. |
