St Dunstans Cemetery

Hob Uid: 618803
Location :
Somerset
Mendip
Glastonbury
Grid Ref : ST5001038820
Summary : Inhumation cemetery and enclosing wall at Glastonbury Abbey. The cemetery, which overlays an earlier one, was walled and built up by St. Dunstan during the mid 10th century. Excavation has identified the course of the wall on the west, south and east sides. Inhumations were found at two levels, the lower probably representing internments made before Dunstan's building up.
More information : (ST 50013882) St. Dunstan's Cemetery and enclosing wall. This cemetery, which overlay an older (no doubt Celtic) and probably more extensive cemetery, was walled and built up by St. Dunstan. The course of the wall has been recovered on the west, south and east sides, and burials are found at two levels, the lower probably representing internments made before Dunstan's building up. (1-3)
