More information : [Marginal] '"...About two years ago, near the same place [Musley Bank tesselated pavement, etc.], but on the adjoining farm called Roughborough, now in the occupation of Mr.William Monkman, another Roman pavement was found, whilst cutting for a drain" (a). A site marked at SE 76307027, attributable to either Morris (b) or Mitchelson (c) may be a rationalisation of a leader to Roughborough Farm. (2)
Mr Rivis, the tenant farmer, in 1950, told R.H.Hayes and N. Mitchelson that nothing Roman had been found since 1930 when he obtained the tenancy. He said the land was all light grey clay under six inches of soil and was not deeply ploughed. The clay may indicate a kiln. (3) [SE 76307026] ROMAN BUILDING [GS] (Site of). (4)
