Summary : Pike Howe Bronze Age round cairn, consisting of a prominent mound 12m in diameter and 0.9m high. It is surmounted on its eastern side by a modern cairn 1.4m high. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on air photographs and was mapped as part of the North York Moors NMP. The feature is extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography. Scheduled. |
More information : (SE 69209616) Pike Howe (NR). (1) A mound 3 ft high, 44 ft from N-S and 42 ft from E-W, surmounted by a modern pile of stones. (2) A prominent heather-covered round cairn as described by Hayes. The name `Pike Howe' is still applicable. Published survey (25") correct. (3)

The Bronze Age round cairn is visible as an earthwork on air photographs, centred at SE 6920 9616. Due to low relief shadow on the covering photography the exact extent of the cairn could not be defined. The feature is extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography. (6) |
