More information : SE 6803 8895. Tumulus (NR). (1) SE 681869. Ploughed down and mutilated mound circa 50ft x 70ft; possibly the remains of a long barrow. Probably the tumulus mentioned by Eastmead, situated about a mile north west of Kirkby Moorside at a place called the Hagg. Many burnt human bones and a urn containing a (secondary) cremation found. (2) Flints have been found in the immediate vicinity of the tumulus and in the field at SE 67908700. (3) All that remains at this site is a slight rise in a ploughed field. It is stonier than the surrounding area but has been well spread by the plough. It is now impossible to determine the original size but it appears to be about 20.0m in diameter and 0.3m high. It has possibly been spread down the slight slope towards the east which could have accounted for the larger measurement given by authority 2, and it is more probable that this was a round and not a long barrow. (4) No survey action. (5)
