Stone coffin, 7 ft. long, 2 ft. 3 in. high, 2 ft. 3 in. deep, found about three years before 1619 in a field at Eastness, Hovingham, Yorks, containing an inhumation. E.R. Drawn in 1665 by Sir William Dugdale. Gough in 1789 recorded that it was still at the mansion-house there. Sought in vain in 1877 by Watkin and in 1929 by Dr. J. L. Kirk, who had cross-trenches cut in the Chapel Field to test the site marked on the O.S. map (see Gazetteer). Now lost. Reproduced (at 3/4) from Dugdale.
