More information : A Roman roofing tile and Roman pottery (2nd-3rd century), together with stone wall foundations, were found in the plough at SE 629 374 by Mr G Firth. (1) SE 629374. Romano-British and medieval pottery found whilst field walking, on a site indicated by air photographs, by M Thackrah and members of the Roman Remains Research Organisation. A small section revealed a probable ditch and Crambeck, Castor and Samian ware, dating fron the late 1st/early 2nd century to 4th century. The site owners have given the pottery to the Yorkshire Museum. (2)

The location of pottery finds recorded here appears to coincide with the western limit of extensive cropmarks of a possible Romano-British field system which extend over a 900 m area and have been separately recorded in SE 63 NW 48. No positive evidence for a villa was identified at this location. (4) |
