MOXBY PRIORY

DESCRIPTION + /

Nunnery founded before 1167 (perhaps 1158) for Augustinian nuns from Marton. In 1310, the community was recorded as being Benedictine, although Augustinian rule had been readopted by 1326. Earthworks comprising a mill dam, building platforms and probable post-Medieval garden moat and enclosures were surveyed at a scale of 1:1000.
