Summary : A tessellated pavement was uncovered in the 18th century 120 yards south of Kirby Wharfe Church. Assumed site of a Roman villa.
More information : (Area centred SE 50604097) A tesselated pavement, about
120 yards south of Kirkby Wharfe church, was seen by Fothergill
some years previous to 1711. Upon 'excavation' in May 1711 it
was found to have been destroyed, only tesserae being recovered. (1)

Roman villa at Kirkby Wharfe. "The site of the seventeenth-century
excavation (sic) has recently been identified at SE 50564094 in an
excavation by M Thackrah with slight remains of the robbed villa."(2)
