Summary : Earthworks of a motte in Cusworth Park. Field investigations in 1964 found it to measure 16ft high, and 60ft by 70ft wide. The ditch which was about 20 ft wide had been filled in on the east. The counterscarp bank survived on the north side. The Motte is scheduled.Part of the circumference of the ditch surrounding the motte is visible as an earthwork on air photographs.

Castle Hill, Cusworth, is an isolated motte, 16ft. high and measuring 60ft by 70ft. on the oval top. The ditch, about 20 ft. wide, has been filled on the east. The counterscarp bank remains on
the north side. (2)

Published survey (25") revised. The motte is now completely overgrown. There is no evidence of a bailey. (3)

SE 5418 0334. Cusworth motte castle. Scheduled RSM no. 13253. (4)

Part of the circumference of the ditch surrounding the motte is visible as an earthwork on air photographs. It measures 5m across and has an internal diameter of c.36m. The motte is centred at SE 5418 0333.
