DESCRIPTION

Two probable Bronze Age round barrows are visible as earthworks on air photographs. The monuments appear levelled on the latest 2009 vertical photography. A third round barrow is recorded, but was not identified from the available air photographs. A further three barrows are recorded separately within the immediate area south of Kepwick Quarry.

Tumuli (NR) (1)

Three small cairns. B measures 48 ft x 50 ft. C Dug in centre. (2)

A: Turf covered 5.0m in diameter and 0.3m in height. It is essentially no more than a site.

B: Well defined, but partially mutilated 15.0m in diameter with
a maximum height of 1.1m.

C: No remains. The site is now occupied by a large pit measuring
15.0 x 10.0m x 2.0m deep.

Both A and B appear to be tumuli, and not cairns. Surveyed at
1:10 000. (3)

SE 4860 9122. Two round barrows 400m NE of Hastings Wood.
Scheduled RSM No 24458 (formerly part of NY/628). (4)

Two probable Bronze Age round barrows are visible as earthworks on air photographs. The northern-most barrow is centred at SE 4859 9124 and measures approximately 9m x 11m. 25m south a second barrow is centred at SE 4859 9120 and measures approximately 14m x 16m. The monuments appear levelled on the latest 2009 vertical photography. A further three barrows are recorded separately within the immediate area south of Kepwick Quarry.
