Summary : Cistercian grange of Rievaulx. The estate of Morton formed part of the Brus fee along with East Harlsey at the end of the 11th century and it was granted to the Abbot of Rievaulx in about 1158. The grange was leased to the Prior of Mount Grace in 1506 and in 1540 it was granted by Henry VIII to Sir James Strangways. There are clear signs of earlier buildings in the meadow to the South of the modern farm house. Vague earthworks visible on air photographs to the South of Morton Grange Farm, but no clearly definable remains.

SE 428996. Morton, a Cistercian grange of Rievaulx. The estate of Morton formed part of the Brus fee along with East Harlsey at the end of the 11th century and it was granted to the Abbot of Rievaulx in about 1158. The grange was leased to the Prior of Mount Grace in 1506 and in 1540 it was granted by Henry VIII to Sir James Strangways.
