Hob Uid: 55688
Location :
North Yorkshire
Hambleton
Thimbleby
Grid Ref : SE4436095040
Summary : Rough Haw Hill (alleged motte and bailey) - natural feature
More information : SE 44369504 The shape of Rough Haw Hall suggests a motte with a partly destroyed bailey towards Thimbleby Grange. (1)

No trace on 1946 RAF air photographs. (2)

This tree-covered conical hill, (similar to others along the foot of the Hambleton/Cleveland Hills escarpment) is an entirely natural feature. The ground to the S.of it falls away, and there is nothing
to suggest the existence of a bailey. (3)
