More information : (SE45908746) New Building (NAT) on site of Kirby Knowle
Castle (NR). (1)

New Building is on the site of the castle said to have been built in the latter part of the 13th century and burnt down in 1568. In 1653-4 it was partly repaired and partly rebuilt and its name changed to New Building. There were probably four corner towers to the first castle, one of which remains. The old buildings extended southwards, occupying the bowling green. The house was thoroughly restored in 1875. (2)

Grade II building. 17th century three-storey stone house with two-storey extensions on the E, W and N sides. (3)

A private residence, temporarily unoccupied; as described by the DOE, but not outstanding. See photographs. There are no apparent remains of the original castle. A tower within the angle between the N and W wings, presumably that to which the VCH refers, does not appear to date before the 17th century. (4)
