More information : [Name centred at SE 3982 6660] Roman Altar. (1) [SE 3981 6661] Roman Altars, (Site of). (2-3) A "Roman Altar removed" (a) situated 20 chains S.W. of St. Andrew's Church, Aldborough, was formerly situated in the garden of Ladywell House (b). (4) [Marginal]. Miss M. Lawson-Tancred states that the altar now at SE 4032 6624 was the only altar at Ladywell House and that the O.S. descriptions of 1909 & 1951 referring to 'Altars' are incorrect. In its present position it is too overgrown to be properly described or photographed. Two other altars are displayed at Aldborough Manor. One is an inscribed altar 2'5" high situated in the grounds at SE 4038 6638 (see G.P. AO/63/109/5) and the other is a small portion of a domestic altar now in the private museum. Neither find spot is known but they were presumably found in this area. (5)
