Huddleston Quarry

Hob Uid: 54663
Location :
North Yorkshire
Selby
Huddleston with Newthorpe
Grid Ref : SE4724633639
Summary : Magnesian Limestone quarry which supplied stone for York Minster during the late 14th century, and for royal houses and colleges in the 15th century. The quarry comprises a large open pit with access from the eastern side. It is circa 150m across and 20-25m deep. The site is now occupied by a Riding School, and has been much landscaped and has been occupied by stable buildings. Very little work processing survives on the site. The size of the quarry suggests that it has been worked since the Mediaeval period.
