Newland Hospitallers Preceptory

Summary : A preceptory of Hospitallers was established at Newland Hall early in the 13th century, and was dissolved 18th November 1540. The chapel, which was rebuilt in 1519, was not demolished until circa 1860. Some possibly 16th/17th century fabric in the lower courses of a barn may survive from the Preceptory or Chapel.
More information : [SE 3660 2243] A preceptory of Hospitallers was established at Newland Hall early in the 13th c, and was dissolved 18th Nov. 1540. It is very doubtful if a vestige of the buildings of this preceptory now remains, although the chapel which was
rebuilt in 1519 was not demolished until c 1860. (1-2)

Newland Hall, formerly at SE 3652 2245, is now demolished, except for some mid 18th Century outbuildings. Some possibly 16th/17th c fabric in the lower courses of a barn at SE 3660 2243 may survive from the Preceptory or Chapel. (3)
