Summary : An early Gothic revival style country house built between 1808 and 1813 by James Wyatt and completed by Jeffry Wyatt between 1814-17, incorporating the remains of the College of Bonhommes (Monument HOB UID 346430) which was used as royal residence following its dissolution in 1539. By 1604 it was used as a country house and was partly demolished in 1800. It is built of Totternhoe stone and ashlar with slate roofs and has a castellated parapet. Some minor alterations were made by Clough Williams-Ellis in 1919. The house was sold in 1921 and became The Bonar Law Memorial College. During World War II the house was used as a hospital and Military Headquarters. From 1954 the house was known as Ashridge Management College. The estate is owned by the National Trust. |
