ADEL ROMAN SETTLEMENT

Excavations in 1933-38 uncovered the remains of a Roman ribbon settlement along Roman Road 72b; building remains were uncovered and pottery dating from the 1st to the 4th century AD. In c.1741 a late 3rd-early 4th century coin hoard was found here as have Roman tombstones and altars.
