Summary : Tower House. The oldest part probably comprises a 16th century bastle (re-set datestone of 1546). Later remodelling and the addition of the stair-wing are probably dated by a doorhead inscribed 1685. The east range was added in the mid 18th century. Late 18th century extensions include the front block and a western extension to the bastle. Altered in the early 20th century. The house is an irregular H-shape in plan and constructed using large irregular rubble with roughly-shaped quoins; the east range and west extension are squared stone; the front block is ashlar except for roughly-squared stone on east. Welsh slate roofs with stacks rebuilt in brick. |
