Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 50771

Hob Uid: 50771
Location :
North Yorkshire
Harrogate
Laverton
Grid Ref : SE1790073300
Summary : Iron Age field system surviving as earthworks and boulders
More information : SE 179733. Series of stone enclosures similar to
Iron Age fields. (1)

Centred at SE 179733 on a gentle NE facing slope are the
remains of an Iron Age field system consisting of mainly large
irregular-shaped fields defined by lynchets. Set on top of the
lynchets are large boulders forming walling which really marks
the system, as the fields, covered by deep heather, are barely
discernible. No clearance heaps are visible (all the stones
probably going into the lynchets) or hut-circles.

Almost certainly contemporary with the earthworks (SE 17 SE 2)
to the immediate south.

(Delineated on 1:10 560 Record Sheet) (2)
