Summary : Foundations of rectangular distillation house. Probably early C19th. |
More information : The remains of this early C19th still (1) are levelled into the base of steep slopes at about 440m OD on the NE bank of Blind Burn. (see plan at 1:100) Oriented NW-SE the rectangular distillation house measures 6.1m by 3.4m transversley inside a turf-covered rough stone wall 0.8m wide andstill standing 4 or 5 courses to a maximum height of 0.7m. There is a good inner face and the outer face is clear along the SW and SE sides but elsewhere is obscured by the natural slopes. The entrance 0.6m wide is at the S end of the SW wall. The kiln is at the NW gable end and measures about 2m diameter across the inside top of a kettledrum shaped corbelled wall also 0.8m wide and some 1.4m maximum height. Little of the outer face of the kiln wall is evident as it is covered by the slope of the ground. There is a tapered firehole opening through the gable 0.5m high and 0.6m wide across the outer side.
