Summary : Roman altar (not in situ), now used as a garden ornament. It measures 4' 10" in height.
More information : A Roman altar, now used as a garden ornament, is situated at SE 1094 4912. It is composed of fine grained sandstone, 4' 10 ins. in height, complete but with the inscribed surface badly corroded. Camden (a) saw it in situ. and gives the inscription as follows. VERBEIAE SACRVM CLODIVS FRONTO PRAEF. COH II LINGON. Horsfall Turner interprets Camden's description of the site of the altar as standing on the outer edge of the western fosse of Olicana (SE 14 NW 28). It was removed to its present position in 1608.
