Summary : Bronze Age round cairn surviving as an earthwork.
More information : [SE 0745 5932] The Devil's Apronful [TI] (1) A cairn, about 40 yds. in circumference, known as the 'Devil's Apronful', situated about 200 yds. south of Truckle Crags. (2) A probable B.A. cairn, 8m in diameter and 1m high, at SE 07465934. It is composed of loose stone, incorporating two large, outcropping boulders. (See L.S. sketch). The centre has been mutilated to form a shooting butt. Surveyed at 6" scale. (3) Condition unchanged. Surveyed at 1:10,000. (4) SE 0747 5935. Devil's Apronful cairn. Scheduled RSM No 24528. The cairn has a diameter of 10.5m and height of 1.5m on the W side where it has been built to include a large erratic boulder. On the E side it is between 0.2m and 0.5m high. Another large boulder is situated on the N edge of the cairn. The centre of the cairn is much disturbed; stones have been removed to build up the sides of the monument to create a windbreak. A few stones remain in the centre, protruding from the heather and a well defined kerb of stones is visible around the E edge of the monument. (5)
